DNA and traits

Engineers Australia is the trading name of The Institution of Engineers Australia and came into being in 1919.

In 1926, Engineers Australia was incorporated as a company and, in 1938, His Majesty King George the Sixth granted a charter of incorporation re-constituting us as a ‘body corporate and politic by royal charter.’

In 1987, we assigned to Our Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia all our powers and functions. Since then, there have been a number of supplemental charters varying the original charter so Engineers Australia can more effectively carry out its purpose.

Engineers Australia journey is rich in history and steeped with historic milestones that has led to the business it is today. 

The purpose of Engineers Australia is to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community.

We achieve our purpose by:
  • educating our members and the community;
  • facilitating the exchange of ideas and information;
  • encouraging the development of knowledge and competency;
  • setting and maintaining high professional standards for our members; and
  • informing community leaders and decision-makers.

Our 100+ year journey has led us to being the Australian leader in engineering which is recognised globally and our members are respected wherever they are. In essence, we are the ‘home for all engineers.’

Brand traits

It is no surprise that we have started to use the term brand, and in particular master-brand, when it comes to talking about Engineers Australia.

The term master-brand reinforces the importance of brand approach for our success and the required focus of our close, dynamic team of people to play a strong part of helping to build and manage the only sustainable competitive advantage we have in the marketplace – our Engineers Australia’s brand.

We are reminded that the great brands across history are made up of powerfully distinctive people with equally powerful things in common. That is the same for Engineers Australia. At the centre of our brand are our members and the people within Engineers Australia which support them.

A great brand measures time in generations, not months and years.
