Inspiring Future Engineers

Inspiring Future Engineers celebrates our commitment to curiosity, creativity, and problem‑solving. It reflects our belief that today’s ideas shape tomorrow’s world—and that by empowering young minds with the tools, confidence, and inspiration to explore engineering, we help build a smarter, more sustainable future.

We use specific visual elements when preparing designs targeted towards a student audience, with imagery of our student members and school students engaged with the program.

Imagery

We use imagery of students and students members when creating assets promoting engineering as a field of study. We have a library of member-imagery that includes details such as their area of engineering and relevant quotes we might like to use for marketing purposes. We also have imagery of students engaging with the Inspiring Future Engineers program that should be prioritised over using stock-imagery for IFE branded assets to add a sense of relatability and realism to the materials.

  • When using the professional photographs of our EA student members, use a bold graphic background that represents their field of engineering. Using conceptual backgrounds over realistic workplace settings is a more engaging and exciting approach when communicating with a younger audience, also helping them identify the field of study at a glance.

  • When selecting imagery of real students engaging with the IFE program, prioritise imagery that is of higher quality, of diverse student groups, of students working together or involved in practical exercises

Typography

We use Space Grotesk on all IFE materials, to reinforce the contemporary, youthful feel.

Lato should be avoided as it has a more mature and often corporate feel when paired with Space Grotesk.

Do
  • Headings in semibold or bold

  • Subheadings: medium

  • Body copy and blocks of text should
always be in regular. Always use Space Grotesk.

Don’t
  • Use light font weights for headings
  • Use bold font weights for body copy
  • Use lato

Colour

We can use all our EA brand colours for IFE. We have a recommended hierarchy of colour use to prioritise legibility. Night Sky and Rust are used sparingly in favour of brighter, more engaging colours for a younger audience such as Marine and Solar.

Black is our primary text colour with the option to use Marine Tint to highlight words in headings.

For larger headings EA Red and Solar can be used.

Use EA Red for text accents like numbers or dividers and for links.

A darker tint of our Marine #00937B should be used for all cases where Marine headings are included.

Don’t
  • Use paler tints of the colours for text
  • Use colour for blocks of body copy
  • Use Rust or Night Sky for text – used sparingly for accents only

Sketched Accents

We have a library of bespoke sketched accents to be used across IFE branded materials. These are used to emphasise key words and bring a youthful feel to the visuals.

Do

Marine tint #00937B, Solar and EA red are our accent colours

Nighy Sky tint used more sparingly

White for divider lines

Marine #BBE5DC for divider lines and table headings

Don’t
  • Overuse the elements
  • Block readability by layering the accents over text
